WORD WATERFALL EXHIBIT - AMERICAN WRITERS MUSEUM

Hosted by the American Writers Museum in Chicago, the Word Waterfall exhibit is a permanent large-scale immersive word-based installation described by the AWM as “a contemplative and meditative experience."

American Writers Museum initially envisioned an exhibit that was both immersive and unusual, so Materials & Methods posited the concept of projecting graphics onto a letter-imprinted vinyl backboard, simulating a sharp, bright cascade of phrases and words. To test the functionality of the exhibit Materials & Methods set up a life-size replica of the concept in-studio using two 16x9 projection canvasses set at a 90° angle, testing animated projection on multiple surfaces including glass bead, but ultimately deciding on the vinyl material. Working with Northern Light Productions and Amaze Design was a pleasure and a positive experience which we hope will continue into the future.

The project was brought to us by our close affiliates Northern Light Productions and Amaze Design. Materials & Methods was engaged as the director of concept design and as a technology specification consultant.
