THE BROAD INSTITUTE

The communications department of the renowned genetics research facility of the Broad Institute engaged Materials & Methods to aid in concept exploration for new dynamic media installations in the lobby of their Cambridge headquarters.

Materials & Methods hosted a series of team building workshops with Broad’s directors and executives. Exercises focusing on perception, branding, and identity were designed to assist the Broad to better articulate objectives and their desired message that would ultimately be communicated through the lobby installations.

Two half-day workshops incorporated a variety of team building exercises developed by Materials & Methods. Exercises included “Communicating by Color”, “Creative Mad Libs”, and a group work project around the idea of identity where participants worked in small groups to design a new hypothetical logo for the Broad Institute. These activities provided an engaging process to facilitate open dialog between departments and help clarify the core objectives to guide the next steps of the design development process.
